CYBERJAYA, Malaysia - BlackBerry Limited (NYSE:BB)(TSX:BB), Global Affairs Canada and Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst announced on Tuesday a new Women in Cyber Leadership Program aimed at advancing women cybersecurity professionals into leadership roles across Malaysia and ASEAN member states. The cybersecurity company, currently valued at $2.65 billion, has seen its shares surge 84% over the past year as it continues to expand its security offerings globally.
The intensive five-day course will take place from January 26-30, 2026, at the MCMC and BlackBerry Cybersecurity Center of Excellence in Cyberjaya, Malaysia. Applications are currently open, with successful candidates to be notified in December 2025.
The program targets mid-level women professionals across all sectors to develop capabilities in cyber risk management, governance frameworks, and executive leadership. The curriculum includes regional threat analysis, emerging technologies including AI, and executive communications, culminating in a certificate of completion.
"It is inspiring to see so many women participating in skills training and globally-certified courses at the MCMC and BlackBerry Cybersecurity Center of Excellence in Malaysia - but there is more work to be done as an industry to grow opportunities for women in cyber leadership roles across the region," said Jaclyn Sim, Senior Manager, Cybersecurity Technical Training at BlackBerry.
The initiative comes as women remain underrepresented in cybersecurity leadership positions while the Indo-Pacific region faces growing digital threats and workforce shortages.
Approximately 40 women from ASEAN member states will participate in the program, which is offered at no cost thanks to funding from the Government of Canada through its Anti-Crime and Counter-Terrorism Capacity Building Program. Travel bursaries are available for selected ASEAN nominees residing outside Malaysia.
The announcement follows Canada’s recent commitment to expand investment in cybersecurity capacity building in the Indo-Pacific region, with Global Affairs Canada providing CAD $226,000 to upskill and train 100 government and civil society professionals, according to a press release statement.
In other recent news, BlackBerry Limited reported its second-quarter earnings for fiscal 2026, surpassing analyst expectations. The company achieved an earnings per share of $0.04, significantly higher than the forecasted $0.01. Additionally, BlackBerry’s revenue reached $129.6 million, exceeding the expected $120.06 million. Following these results, RBC Capital raised its price target for BlackBerry to $4.50 from $4.00, maintaining a Sector Perform rating. This adjustment was influenced by the strong quarterly results and an increase in BlackBerry’s fiscal year 2026 guidance. Meanwhile, TD Cowen resumed coverage of BlackBerry with a Hold rating and set a price target of $5.00, noting the company’s potential for growth and expanding profit margins. In another development, BlackBerry has entered into a multi-year partnership with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia to foster the development of cyber talent and embedded software engineers. This collaboration was formalized at the 47th ASEAN Summit, highlighting BlackBerry’s commitment to education and innovation.
