Detailsinfo
A vulnerability was found in OISF Suricata up to 7.0.14/8.0.3. It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is some unknown processing of the component Traffic Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a algorithmic complexity vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-407. An algorithm in a product has an inefficient worst-case computational complexity that may be detrimental to system performance and can be triggered by an attacker, typically using crafted manipulations that ensure that the worst case is being reached. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:
Suricata is a network IDS, IPS and NSM engine. Prior to versions 7.0.15 and 8.0.4, specially crafted traffic can cause Suricata to slow down, affecting performance in IDS mode. This issue has been patched in versions 7.0.15 and 8.0.4.
The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-31933 since 03/10/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1499 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
