The European Cybersecurity Competence Centre has mobilized more than EUR 1.1 billion, or more than $1.2 billion across EU contributions, member state funding and industry investment, targeting technologies most critical to the continent's digital resilience, said Luca Tagliaretti, executive director of the European Cybersecurity Competence Centre. "We are part of a global team, but we have to be better at fostering our own technology as well," Tagliaretti said. "We never do it alone. We need to think of looking at what the risks are and focusing on the technologies that have a higher risk and higher impact." In this video interview with Information Security Media Group at RSAC Conference 2026, Tagliaretti also discussed: The need for dedicated sector SOCs for hospitals and undersea cable infrastructure; How public-private collaboration drives innovation, with industry as the engine of cybersecurity research; Why education and human skills remain Europe's most essential long-term cyber capability. Tagliaretti leads the European Cybersecurity Competence Center, shaping its cybersecurity, digital transformation and research agenda. He has more than 20 years of experience with European institutions and international organizations. He previously held a senior leadership role at the European Central Bank.
