The state legislature established the Space Exploration & Aeronautics Research Fund (SEARF) in 2023 with a $150-million appropriation to catalyze research, infrastructure, and technology development, as well as a $200-million allocation for the Texas A&M Space Institute, a multi-tenant facility designed to advance lunar and Mars systems. In 2025, the legislature approved an additional $300 million in grants.
