College of Computing Unveils Quantum Computing Strategy at Siam-Quantum Nexus 2026 7 August 2026 17:05 Khon Kaen University outlines a four-year strategic roadmap to advance deep research, develop specialized talent, and build a collaborative ecosystem for quantum technology in Thailand.  Khon Kaen University’s College of Computing participated in Siam-Quantum Nexus 2026, an initiative established to launch Thailand’s digital platform and knowledge hub for quantum technology. The project focuses on four primary pillars: Quantum Communications, Quantum Sensing, Quantum Computing, and Authentic Science Communication. These pillars aim to cultivate fundamental understanding, prevent information misinterpretation, and foster responsible social innovation. During the event, IEEE Computer Society Thailand invited Associate Professor Sirapat Chiewchanwattana, Ph.D., Dean of the College of Computing at Khon Kaen University, to deliver a keynote address titled “Development Strategy and Roadmap: Quantum Computing”. The Dean introduced the “KKU – Quantum Computing Roadmap”, a four-year strategic framework designed to accelerate workforce development and drive quantum innovation to meet future technological demands. Associate Professor Chiewchanwattana outlined the four strategic pillars underpinning the College’s vision: deep research into quantum architecture and algorithms (Technology & Deep Research), professional talent development through specialised curricula and training (Manpower Development), interdisciplinary and international collaboration networks (Ecosystem & Network), and a workforce acceleration plan (Acceleration Plan). The operational roadmap begins with a foundational phase in 2026, incorporating essential quantum computing modules into existing computer science curricula, hosting practical workshops, and sending personnel for professional certification. Subsequently, the College will establish specialised academic tracks in quantum computing across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes before expanding into full degree offerings. The strategy also envisions a Centre of Excellence or Quantum Hub to integrate research across faculties, government agencies, and the private sector. To accelerate workforce readiness, the College is implementing an early-stage research integration model. Undergraduate students from their second to fourth years will join research groups and engage in real-world projects alongside faculty members, bypassing the traditional wait for postgraduate enrolment. This will prepare graduates for emerging careers such as Quantum Researchers, Quantum Software Engineers, Quantum Algorithm Developers, and Quantum Device Designers.
