Lesotho steps up national cyber security - ITWeb Africa

Lesotho has launched a National Computer Security Incident Response Team and a National Cybersecurity Forum to strengthen the country’s digital security. The initiative aims to improve incident response and coordination across the national digital ecosystem. The Ministry of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation said the move supports the country’s digital transformation and efforts to build a secure and resilient digital environment. It also aligns with broader efforts across Africa to strengthen national cybersecurity capabilities as digital adoption increases. Minister of ICT Nthati Moorosi said the initiative is a critical step towards securing Lesotho’s digital future. “As technology evolves, we must put in place strong cybersecurity measures to protect government systems, businesses and citizens from growing cyber threats,” she said. Moorosi said the framework will support secure digital infrastructure, protect digital payment systems and encourage innovation and investment. She added that a secure digital economy is key to expanding access to global markets. The minister said strong cybersecurity measures also improve investor confidence and trust in digital systems. The Lesotho Communications Authority described the initiative as a collaborative effort involving government, industry, regulators, financial institutions and telecommunications providers. “This initiative brings together stakeholders to strengthen national cyber resilience through collaboration, information sharing and coordinated incident response,” the authority said.
