The Namibia Cyber Security Incident Response Team (NAM-CSIRT) represented the country at the 38th Annual Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams (FIRST) Conference, held in Denver, Colorado, from 14 to 19 June. Acting NAM-CSIRT executive Cornelia Shipindo, who served on the NAT-CSIRT 2026 Programme Committee and helped coordinate activities and discussions during the meeting. NAM-CSIRT is housed under Cran. During the conference, Shipindo took part in the Africa Breakfast session, which brought together cybersecurity professionals from across the continent. She shared Namibia’s experience in establishing its national cyber incident response team. “We shared our journey of establishing NAM-CSIRT, including the challenges we faced, the milestones achieved and the lessons learned while operationalising Namibia’s national CSIRT,” she said. NAM-CSIRT also contributed to a panel discussion on operating cyber incident response teams in low-income and fragile environments. Cybersecurity specialist Thank-You Hauwanga discussed practical ways to build and sustain national response teams despite limited resources. The discussion focused on the use of open-source tools, building trust with stakeholders and developing sustainable funding models. Hauwanga said countries with limited resources can still establish effective cyber incident response teams by leveraging partnerships and available technologies. Cybersecurity has become a growing concern worldwide as more services move online. Governments, businesses and individuals increasingly face threats such as cyberattacks, online fraud and data breaches. NAM-CSIRT became a member of FIRST in December 2025, joining a global network of incident response teams that work together to improve cybersecurity and coordinate responses to cyber incidents.  Cran said Namibia’s participation at the conference reflects the country’s commitment to strengthening its cybersecurity capabilities and expanding cooperation with regional and international partners.Namibian Economy Report Discover more Oil and Gas Investment Opportunities Namibia News Archive Access “Namibia remains committed to strengthening national cybersecurity capabilities, deepening regional and international cooperation and contributing meaningfully to the global cybersecurity ecosystem,” she said.  -newsroom@nepc.com.na
