DATA PROTECTION DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION CLOUD SECURITY Proofpoint extends security & governance into Claude Tue, 26th May 2026 (Today) SEAN MITCHELL Publisher Proofpoint has integrated its platform with the Claude Compliance API, extending its security and governance tools into Claude. The integration covers data security, data loss prevention, insider risk, AI runtime security and digital communications governance for organisations using Claude Enterprise and Claude Platform in Anthropic-hosted environments. It is intended to let customers apply existing controls to AI-assisted work without adding a separate AI-only security system. In practice, that gives organisations a single layer of oversight across employee and AI activity in endpoint, cloud, email, collaboration and AI applications. The announcement comes as businesses expand their use of AI assistants beyond trial deployments. Proofpoint's 2026 AI and Human Risk Landscape Report found that nearly nine in 10 global organisations have moved AI assistants beyond pilot, while 42% have already faced a suspicious or confirmed AI-related incident. Data controls One part of the integration brings Claude Enterprise conversation content and Claude Platform activity logs into Proofpoint's data security and insider risk products. That lets organisations apply existing classifiers, behavioural risk models and data loss prevention policies to prompts, responses, files, projects and administrative activity inside Claude Enterprise. Claude Platform activity logs can also be monitored through the same framework. AI interactions are assessed using the same detection logic customers already use for endpoint, cloud and email environments. As a result, security teams can investigate AI-assisted workflows alongside other activity rather than treating them as a separate category. The approach is meant to help detect unusual behaviour across both human users and AI systems. Governance scope A second part of the integration extends Proofpoint's Digital Communications Governance product into Claude Enterprise. This gives organisations a way to apply supervision, retention, eDiscovery and investigation workflows to AI-assisted communications. Proofpoint argues that storing transcripts alone is not enough for regulatory supervision or investigations. Firms also need to understand the context, intent and sequence of actions behind decisions made with AI tools. By bringing Claude conversations into its governance system, customers can review communication patterns and reconstruct decisions across both human-generated and AI-generated interactions. The aim is to fold AI conversations into existing compliance processes already used elsewhere in the business. Mayank Choudhary, EVP and GM of Proofpoint's Information Protection, Cloud Security, and Compliance Products Group, said the shift requires a unified approach. "Organisations cannot succeed with one governance model for people and another for AI. Humans and AI agents operate in the same workflows, access the same sensitive data, and shape the same business decisions. They require one control layer. By extending our data security, insider risk, and communications governance solutions into Claude, we're enabling customers to manage AI activity through the same platform they trust to protect the rest of their enterprise. We are excited to integrate with the Claude Compliance API, which makes the integration of controls secure and scalable," he said. The release reflects a broader shift in corporate security and compliance strategy as AI systems take on more day-to-day business tasks. As companies allow AI tools to read files, draft communications, support decision-making and trigger actions, compliance teams are under pressure to show those actions remain visible and reviewable under existing controls. For vendors such as Proofpoint, that creates an opportunity to extend established governance tools into generative AI platforms already used by large organisations. Rather than building a parallel stack for AI oversight, Proofpoint is positioning the integration as a way to apply the same policies and review processes across established systems and newer AI services. The integrations are available now to customers of both Proofpoint and Anthropic using Claude Enterprise and Claude Platform in Anthropic-hosted environments.
