NITDA empowers women with cybersecurity skills March 17, 2026 12:15 am By  Justice Okamgba Kindly share this story: The National Information Technology Development Agency has launched a specialised training programme aimed at empowering Nigerian women with cybersecurity skills and boosting their role in the country’s digital security workforce. The initiative, tagged ‘Cyber for Women’, was held recently in collaboration with Women in Cybersecurity. It is designed not just as a training session but as a strategic investment in Nigeria’s digital future and global cybersecurity resilience. Speaking at the event, NITDA’s Director of Cybersecurity, Mohammed Ahmed, represented by Ayodele Bakare, said the programme deliberately positions Nigerian women at the centre of the country’s digital security ecosystem. “Today is a declaration that the women of Nigeria are not bystanders in the digital revolution; they are its architects,” Ahmed said. He added that cybersecurity has become a critical pillar for digital transformation in an increasingly technology-driven world. The programme aims to address the persistent gender gap in cybersecurity. While global demand for cybersecurity professionals rises, women remain significantly under-represented. NITDA’s training provides participants with practical skills, tools and collaboration opportunities to thrive in the field. “Our objective is clear: to empower Nigerian women in cybersecurity with knowledge, tools and collaboration opportunities,” Ahmed noted. “Your presence here today signifies commitment and readiness for the ever-evolving digital age and its cybersecurity challenges.” The Cyber for Women training is part of NITDA’s broader efforts to build local capacity, promote digital inclusion and strengthen Nigeria’s cybersecurity workforce, positioning the country to meet both national and global digital security demands.
