Although the October 20 jump-scare with the Amazon Web Service outage that affected a wide plethora of web-product users from Alexa to Zoom across the eastern United States was found by the company to have been caused by a bug in the code and not a cyberattack, the incident serves as a sober warning to have a plan. To encourage Florida’s firms to set a plan in place, The Florida Bar Committee on Cybersecurity and Privacy’s will present “Recommendation 25-1: Voluntary Adoption of Incident Response Plans” Thursday, November 13, from 12-1 p.m., E.T. This webinar introduces the Bar’s Recommendation 25-1, published in September. It explains the recommendation’s scope, timelines, and practical benefits, guiding firms through how to structure and implement an IRP effectively. According to the recommendation, incident response is divided into phases: Detect and Identify – alert and quickly mobilize the team Contain – halt the intrusion and prevent additional damage Eradicate – remove or repair affected system components Recover – bring systems back online Report and Review – postmortem and lessons learned The webinar will be presented by Javier Vijil and Brian Ramkissoon of Kennedys Law Firm. Vijil, a partner in the Miami office, focuses on cyber risk and insurance and he has been actively developing the firm’s cyber insurance and incident response practice. Ramkissoon, of the firm’s New York office, is experienced in aligning security and privacy compliance programs. “Recommendation 25-1: Voluntary Adoption of Incident Response Plans,” course #9501, has been approved by the Florida Bar Continuing Legal Education Department for 1 hour of General and 1 hour of Technology credit.
