During the Consumer Electronics Show in January 2025, Huang estimated that highly useful quantum computers were likely 15 to 30 years away. That remark caused sharp declines in the stock prices of several quantum companies: IonQ shares fell 39 percent in a single day, and Rigetti Computing shares dropped 45 percent. D-Wave Quantum CEO Alan Baratz responded on LinkedIn by stating that Huang misunderstood quantum technology and called his statements misinformation. Baratz also acknowledged the potential for artificial intelligence and quantum computing to work together, expressing openness to collaborating with companies like Nvidia. This year, Nvidia made an announcement that may alter the quantum computing field significantly. The company introduced a new model called Ising, designed to assist in building quantum processors that can run practical applications. Nvidia already operates a hybrid quantum-classical computing platform named CUDA-Q, launched in 2022, on which both IonQ and Rigetti are active partners. The Ising model is described as open source and powered by AI, which Nvidia suggests will be essential for managing the complexity of quantum systems.
