SOMCIRT will play a key role in ensuring that our digital ecosystem remains secure and resilient.” In his remarks, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre described the inauguration of SOMCIRT as an important milestone in strengthening Somalia’s digital security and supporting the country’s broader digital transformation efforts. “The launch of SOMCIRT marks a significant step in safeguarding Somalia’s digital future. A secure cyberspace is essential for national security, economic development, and building public trust in digital services.” SOMCIRT, which operates under the National Communications Authority, will serve as the national coordination center for identifying, preventing, and responding to cybersecurity incidents across Somalia. The center will support incident reporting, issue alerts and warnings, coordinate responses to cyber threats, and promote cybersecurity awareness and cooperation among government institutions, the private sector, and international partners to strengthen the protection of Somalia’s critical digital infrastructure.
