Detailsinfo
A vulnerability was found in hapijs content up to 6.0.0. It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown processing of the component HTTP Handler. The manipulation of the argument Content-Type/Content-Disposition with an unknown input leads to a redos vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-1333. The product uses a regular expression with an inefficient, possibly exponential worst-case computational complexity that consumes excessive CPU cycles. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:
@hapi/content provided HTTP Content-* headers parsing. All versions of @hapi/content through 6.0.0 are vulnerable to Regular Expression Denial of Service (ReDoS) via crafted HTTP header values. Three regular expressions used to parse Content-Type and Content-Disposition headers contain patterns susceptible to catastrophic backtracking. This vulnerability is fixed in 6.0.1.
The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-35213 since 04/01/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1449.003 for this issue.
