Affected is the function sco_recv_frame of the component Bluetooth. Performing a manipulation results in use after free. This vulnerability is reported as CVE-2026-31408. The attacker must have access to the local network to execute the attack. No exploit exists. You should upgrade the affected component. Detailsinfo A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.6.130/6.12.79/6.18.20/6.19.10/7.0-rc5. It has been classified as critical. This affects the function sco_recv_frame of the component Bluetooth. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a use after free vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-416. Referencing memory after it has been freed can cause a program to crash, use unexpected values, or execute code. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is: In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Bluetooth: SCO: Fix use-after-free in sco_recv_frame() due to missing sock_hold sco_recv_frame() reads conn->sk under sco_conn_lock() but immediately releases the lock without holding a reference to the socket. A concurrent close() can free the socket between the lock release and the subsequent sk->sk_state access, resulting in a use-after-free. Other functions in the same file (sco_sock_timeout(), sco_conn_del()) correctly use sco_sock_hold() to safely hold a reference under the lock. Fix by using sco_sock_hold() to take a reference before releasing the lock, and adding sock_put() on all exit paths. The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-31408 since 03/09/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. The attack can only be initiated within the local network. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 04/06/2026). Upgrading to version 6.6.131, 6.12.80, 6.18.21, 6.19.11 or 7.0-rc6 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 45aaca995e4a7a05b272a58e7ab2fff4f611b8f1/108b81514d8f2535eb16651495cefb2250528db3/7197462e90b8ce15caa1ae15d4bc2bb8cd21b11e/e76e8f0581ef555eacc11dbb095e602fb30a5361/598dbba9919c5e36c54fe1709b557d64120cb94b is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at EUVD (EUVD-2026-19196).
